A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl. – Stephen Hoeller

The pearl is one of the rarest and most valuable gems known to mankind. While most pearls are widely sold and cultivated for mass distribution. Pearls are expensive and take years to form in splendour and in beauty.

It is created in the heart of a living oyster, in the deep dark of the sea, an irritant such as a grain of sand is introduced inside the shell. It begins to cut and dig into the tender inner tissues of the oyster, and it is then that it secretes a substance called Nacre, aka Mother of Pearl. Layer upon layer is formed around that grain of sand until it is a beautiful pearl. For you are bought with a price: Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

You are his pearl of great price, buried in a sea of sinfulness, lost, just a grain of sand, and he has poured out himself upon you until you have become his godly pearl.

And we need to be shining pearls. What has tarnished the lustre of your Christian life?

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking godly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. Matthew 13:45–46
