God made everything
God made you
He loves you!
God made everything good
The Bible tells us that in the beginning God made everything, the heavens and the earth, the plants and the animals. Everything God made was good. When looking at the mountains, the flowers, the tiniest animal and every other human being, you have to admit in awe: God is great and good! He also made you!
He made you very special
God loves everything and everyone he made. He loves you very much. God wants for us to love him too, and to obey him.
Sin wrecks everything
And yet, people sin. Sin means that we do not really love God and that we disobey him. Instead of loving God and other people, we actually only love ourselves.
You too are sinful! The Bible tells us,
“All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one” (Romans 3:12).
- We are all born with sinful hearts. The way we live our lives from day to day proves it:
Do you always tell the truth?
Do you live exactly the way the Bible expects of you?
Do you really care about others and do you help them?
Do your actions and your words always show that you are a child of God?
In the Ten Commandments and all throughout the Bible God teaches us how we should live. Because we do not obey his instructions, sin separates us from God. It ruins our relationships with our neighbours. It brings great sadness to our own lives and other peoples’ lives. What’s more, all of creation suffers because of peoples’ sins. We cannot take away sin and its consequences ourselves. Actually, what all of us deserve is to die. And all of this makes God very sad.
God’s plan to restore everything
This is why God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to this broken world of ours.
Even though Jesus himself was without sin, he took all our sins upon him. He carried the burden of all the sins on our behalf.
Jesus died on the cross in our place. There, his blood was shed for us so that we may be saved. The Bible says,
“For Christ died for sins once for all” (1 Peter 3:18).
The price he paid there was enough. By dying on the cross he paid for ALL our sins. He was buried and was raised on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3 and 4). This is the good news – the gospel! The Lord Jesus Christ was raised from the dead!
He conquered sin and death! When he was raised from the dead, Christ gave life to us as a gift. And he also gave us God’s peace. Now we may once again live in peace with God, with ourselves and with others (Romans 5:1). Christ now sits on the throne with God. He lives. He reigns over everything. He prays for us and he keeps us. And one day he will come again to make everything brand new.
We can and must believe it!
Now we must believe this! We must believe it with all our heart. This is why the Father and the Son sent the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit helps us to believe that Jesus paid for all our sins. The Holy Spirit teaches us from the Word of God to believe and to live in the right way. The Spirit mends everything in our lives that sin has wrecked! I become a new person! If I believe that Jesus is my Saviour I must turn away from sin. I must say no to things that are wrong. And this I am now able to do because the Holy Spirit helps me.
This is how I should pray in accepting Jesus:
“Lord Jesus, I sincerely regret all the wrong things that I have done. I believe that you died on the cross for me, and that you were raised from the dead for me too. Thank you for saving me from sin. Thank you for allowing me to be your child. Please help me now to live like an obedient child of yours and to love my neighbour as I love myself.”
How to live grateful as a child of God
Being a child of God, means that I now live a life of saying thank you. I live the way in which the Bible asks of me. Now I daily live in a loving relationship with God.
Being a Child of God means I now enjoy reading the Word of God and worshipping him, while also glorifying him along with others in my church. I now become part of his family, his congregation. I also care for others and for God’s creation. My actions and my words show how much I really love him. I become a witness of his love.
Being assured of salvation, I can now live with peace and joy in my heart, dying one day with comfort, because the Word of God tells us:
“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12) and, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame” (Romans 10:11).
