Prof. Jacques W. Beukes

Prof. Beukes specialises in Christian Spirituality, Eco-Theology, Eco-Diakonia, and Theology and Development. His research explores the intersection of faith, youth engagement, environmental justice, and community development. He has authored numerous scholarly articles and book chapters on topics such as youth environmental consciousness, the role of religion in sustainable development, and socially engaged diaconal theology.
In addition to his academic writing and frequent presentations at international conferences, Prof. Beukes is involved in collaborative projects such as the South African–German Research Hub on Religion and Sustainability (SAGRaS). He also serves as the newly appointed editor of the Stellenbosch Theological Journal’s Practical Theology issue.
He is an active member of several international academic networks, including the International Society for the Research and Study of Diaconia and Christian Social Practice (ReDi), the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry (IASYM), and the International Academy of Practical Theology (IAPT).
Through his work, Prof. Beukes continues to bridge theological scholarship with practical community engagement, shaping discourse and practice within both the academy and the church in South Africa and beyond.

Prof. Johan Buitendag

Prof Johan Buitendag, gewese dekaan van die Fakulteit van Teologie en Religie, Universiteit van Pretoria, en vooraanstaande kenner van die teologie oor ekologie, is die wenner van dié toekenning. Buitendag het baanbrekerswerk verrig toe hy die eerste Suid-Afrikaner geword het wat ’n doktorsproefskrif oor teologie en ekologie geskryf het. Hy is die outeur of mede-outeur van 38 artikels oor skepping en ekologie in erkende vakwetenskaplike tydskrifte, en het 10 hoofstukke in internasionaal-erkende boeke oor ekologie geskryf. Buitendag lewer ’n beduidende bydrae tot ’n omvattende teologiese benadering tot die ekologie wat ook beskryf kan word as “’n hermeneutiek van ekologiese verantwoordbaarheid teenoor die Skepper en die skepping”.
