Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. – George Herbert
Life has a way of causing us to lose our cutting edge. A young prophet borrowed an axe to help with the building project. He furiously started to chop a tree; after one powerful swing, the handle felt light; he looked up just in time to see his axe head splash into the river. Elisha said, “Where did it fall?”
Thinking about it, he lost his cutting edge, he lost his power element. This was the strength that made him effective. That is your connection to God; being empowered by the Holy Spirit. It could be because of self-negligence, or you feel perhaps you have gone off the track.
One needs to take a break to have a balanced life. When he lost his cutting edge, he stopped swinging the axe. If he continued, he would have only been wasting time and losing energy without accomplishing anything. We therefore need to rest; pray and reconnect with God; your family and your God given purpose.
The axe was borrowed; it did not belong to him; likewise, your gifts, talents, position, relationships and opportunities are not yours. One day we will have to answer to the Lord of all that he has entrusted you to manage. We need to ask God for help to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
Look back, retrace and think about the situation. Where is the cutting edge? We need the power of the Holy Spirit to operate through us to get the job done. Don’t lose your cutting edge. God wants you to keep your skills s polished that you can sharpen your own tools to accomplish His work.
They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!” The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. 2 Kings 6:3–6
